I realised the importance of psychology and mental states in health early in my medical career. I decided to train in psychotherapy at The Karuna Institute in Devon and gained an MA in 2005. This combined my interests in psychological processes and Buddhism. I have also had further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Coaching approaches. The Core Process approach emphasises bringing the mindfulness and presence that arises from a meditation practice into the therapeutic relationship.
This manifests as compassion and practical support with new ways of relating to arising feelings, emotions and thoughts.
“I trained in Core Process Psychotherapy, a Buddhist based model, in order to emphasize the importance of compassion and vulnerability in relationship, as well as to foster focus and mindfulness in the work.”
